Will Wells

Will Wells is a Partner at Speedinvest, where he leads the Deep Tech team, backing frontier science and technology founders from Seed to Series B and beyond who are solving some of the world’s hardest problems, from AI and climate to defense, robotics, energy, and space.

As a founder-turned-investor, he brings operational empathy and multi-stage venture experience from Europe to Silicon Valley. He previously founded Hummingbird Technologies, an early autonomous AI platform and the first to measure soil health from space, which he scaled and exited in 2022. That journey shapes his conviction-driven, hands-on approach to investing.

Will previously spent 4 years as Venture Partner with both Lightspeed and firstminute Capital, and was lucky enough to work alongside some of the world’s most ambitious deep-tech companies, including Base Power, Cusp AI, Automata, Wayve, SpaceX, n8n, Mistral, Helsing, and Proxima Fusion. He is an active angel investor in the European AI and deep tech ecosystem. Earlier in his career, he was a Partner at Highclere, a hedge fund managing several billion dollars in assets, and before that, in M&A. A strong believer in Europe’s potential to lead in deep tech, Will also serves on UK government boards and holds an MBA from INSEAD.

Based in London with his wife and daughter, he spends his free time skiing, playing tennis, tending to his rooftop garden, or hosting barbecues, usually with Pink Floyd or Oasis on the playlist.
